Like most of us, I've been taking photographs all my life, and some of them were even pretty good.  But it's only in the last couple of years that I've taken what I would consider a serious interest in photography.

It has been a delight to learn a new skill.  For most of my life I couldn't have told you much about apertures, shutter speeds, lighting setups and composition, and I certainly never ventured anywhere near any buttons that said "Manual" on a camera.  Walking into a shop and seeing a shiny Nikon D300 changed all that for ever... hey, I'm a guy.  We're talking serious toys here!  These days I shoot with a Nikon D3 and bags full of kit to achieve the lighting effects I want, but I'll never forget the moment it started.

Beyond that, the act of creating is its own reward.  If you've ever looked at something you wrote or made or cooked, or listened to something you said or played or sang and thought "wow, did I do that?", you'll know what I mean.

Welcome along on the ride, and thank you for visiting my site!

Hi Peter,
For most modelling shots I use my D3 with a Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 lens. It's fantastic in terms of both sharpness and vignetting, though I have to discipline myself to use it at the longer focal lengths to produce that nice flattening of a model's features you get above say 50mm. For some shots where I'm looking for a more dramatic feel, I use the Nikon 14-24mm f2.8 - also an awesome lens. I'm currently considering the new 70-200mm, just because! :)

Hello Richard,

What sort of lens do you use with the Nikon D3 for your model photography?

Those Nikon's are just soooo irresistible and sexy ! I shoot with the Nikon D60 which still looks marvelous ! I am familiar with the D300 and someday once I have worked the D60 to death I will definitely go for the D300 ! Oh and nice site by the way !

Thanks Quill Point! I really appreciate your comments. Yes I built the site myself, using Joomla as the basic framework. It was quite a learning curve I have to admit! But very satisfying. And I know the image you mean - Tignes in France - I love that one too :) Good luck with your HTML class!

wow, thats really cool :D i dont know very much about camera's but just the name "D300" would have been a good enough selling point for me lol did you make this site yourself? its pretty darn spiffy, especially this comment box ^^ im in a HTML class and i cannot seem to get mine to work >.< haha, oh well, perhaps i best head off to do that XP anyways, its quite interesting to hear about your passion for photograph and how it started, i know iv really enjoyed your photos and i hope you continue to take them for a long time^^ oddy, i think my favourite of your pic's is not one with Emma in her infamous latex garments (though those get honarable mention for obvious reasons) but the one of the snowy little village in "fire and water"
