Emma and I have just returned from a fortnight in paradise - an island in the Maldives. An incredible place, especially for a photographer. The crystal clear water is luminescent and the sand a holiday brochure shade of powdery white. Best of all, you can step out from your villa on to the beach, and a couple of paces later, walk straight into the water.
There the real draw becomes apparent - the sea is teeming with fish, rays, even baby sharks. Whether you're snorkelling or diving there's a huge amount to see. I took along an underwater camera (and a clever housing "bag" for my D3) and will put some fishy shots up at some point soon!
The hotel facilities were equally amazing. A great restaurant looked over a calm lagoon, with lights to attract the sea-life. It really was like looking out into a postcard every day.
It was at night, though, that the colours really came to life. From the moonlit beach and the warmth of our little villa, to the bar, which had sand underfoot, palm trees and fruit bats swaying overhead and the occasional local band playing...
...to the sunset over the arrival jetty. Not images that I will forget in a hurry, and I was very lucky to have my camera and a trusty tripod along for the ride!
On this site, under the "Gallery" menu, you'll find a section called "The World" where you can see these and other photographs from my travels. I'd encourage you to take a look and I hope you enjoy what you find there!
