There's a lot to be said for latex, but it's not a great insulator. Nevertheless, the intrepid Tallulah and I set off up the mountain in Tignes a couple of weeks ago, in full ski gear - except for the latex catsuit she was wearing under all the insulation!
We had scoped out a possible location for a shoot the day before - a fairly quiet area, off-piste (there was about 10 ft of powder snow under us!). We arrived and I took a few practice shots with my Nikon D300, using an off-camera flash (SB800) triggered by the on-camera one, to create a good key light and lift her out of the background.
My fingers froze just doing that - it was -15C or so, and starting to snow. But that was only the start - then we had to get her out of her ski gear. I had her lie down in the snow then took her boots off her skis and the boots off her feet (easier said than done). Then while she gritted her teeth and tried to rest on her jacket, off came the trousers, the boots went back on and she was back into the skis.
Finally the top came off, and we had about 2 minutes (literally) to shoot before the poor girl froze solid! Reversing the process was even harder but we ended up skiing down the mountain together, laughing our heads off. It was an intense experience, and so worth it - the photos are pretty unique!
Here's to a very brave model indeed! :)
